Converting a hotel into permanent housing as part of a rehousing initiative.

Client Details Since 2006, GRSA has worked closely with the Old Brewery Mission (OBM) to design improvements to both their existing buildings, as well as the construction of new facilities. Approaches to homelessness have continued to evolve over this period: while providing assistance with immediate needs, the Mission seeks to find long term, sustainable solutions to end homelessness, and help clients re-integrate into society.
GRSA has participated in projects at the OBM’s main Webster Pavilion, 904 St-Laurent, the Patricia MacKenzie (Women’s) Pavilion, Maison Roger Beaulieu, Pavillon Lise Watier, and Au Pied de la Montagne.

Project Info

Part of the Federal Government’s "Rapid Rehousing Initiative", this project was launched during the pandemic to convert an existing 3 storey hotel into permanent housing for 27 men. The building required extensive structural repairs and building code upgrades. Each room is fitted with its own kitchenette, however the residents are encouraged to participate in meals prepared in the group kitchens found on each floor. On the completely rebuilt basement level are support services, offices, and a community gathering space. The Park avenue entrance will be enhanced with benches and planters donated by the general contractor of the project, Anbec Construction Inc.
